About Me
Personal Profile
Hello, I’m Gem Spalding-Tunnicliffe, founder of Spalding’s School of Science.
I hold a degree in Natural Sciences, where I majored in Physics but also studied Biology and Chemistry (microbiology, genetics & physical chemistry).
My dissertation explored the habitability of exoplanets — reflecting my particular passion for astrophysics. I’m currently expanding my expertise further by studying for a second degree in Chemistry, specialising in organic, medicinal and food chemistry. I am really pleased to say for the chemistry module I just completed in food, water & medicine, I achieved a Distinction grade.
Since 2018, I’ve been tutoring GCSE and A-Level students in Maths, Physics and Chemistry across all major exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR A). I moved to a hybrid style of teaching in 2020, offering both in-person and online lessons, which means I can adapt flexibly to the needs of each student.
I also have extensive experience supporting students with SEND, particularly those with autism, ADHD and dyslexia. I believe every student deserves to feel confident and capable in their learning, so I adapt my teaching style to suit their individual needs. I currently work as a subcontractor for my local authority, providing tuition to students with EHCPs in place.
Above all, I want my students to enjoy learning, to ask questions freely, and to feel empowered by their progress — whether they’re aiming for top grades, trying to boost confidence, or simply looking for a clearer understanding of the subject
